Overview

Two-Way Immersion Model

Pre-Primary and Primary Schools

Afterschool Program

Summer Camp

In both Pre-Primary and Primary Schools, we will follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP). It is designed for students aged 3 to 12.

Some highlights of PYP:

  • An inquiry based approach which is child centered not teacher centered.
  • The children are active learners and encouraged to ask questions and find the answers.
  • It is highly trans-disciplinary, that is, it integrates the various academic subjects together.
  • It is highly process oriented rather than content driven.
  • Children will learn how to learn for lifelong learning.
  • It is also value driven in order to arrive at the qualities of the PYP learner's profile: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.

Here is our planned Program of Inquiry (hyperlink to the Program of Inquiry file) for 2008 – 09 School Year for Pre-K and K/First Grade Classes.

Pre-Primary School (Pre-K, ages 3 and 4)

The curriculum for Pre-K student is play-based and developmentally appropriate. Pre-Kindergarten is 100% Mandarin.  We will provide supports as needed for students who enter without any Mandarin knowledge. It has been demonstrated world-wide in language acquisition that there is a very fast learning period for 3 and 4-year-olds. We will also offer a reinforced English option for students from non-English speaking families.

Primary School (Kindergarten and Elementary Grades, ages 5 and up)

Kindergarten and First Grade 1 hour of English language instruction
Second Grade 2 hours of English language instruction
Third Grade and up 1 hour of Spanish instruction and the rest of time is evenly divided between English and Mandarin

We will provide supports as needed for students who enter without any Mandarin knowledge.  We will also offer a reinforced English option for students from non-English speaking families.
