We welcome your interest in Shu Ren International School. Shu Ren International School wishes to enroll students who can benefit from a dual immersion Mandarin-English program. Students are admitted to the school on the basis of developmental readiness, intellectual potential and family motivation. Knowledge of Mandarin is not required until grade 2; however admissions into grade 1 for students without proficiency in Mandarin will require special testing to assess the student’s ability to catch up in this regard.

Admission in grade 2 and above requires proficiency in Mandarin and English and will also be determined by previous school achievement and readiness for the school’s program.

In all cases, the school retains the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether or not to select a student for admission or to re-enroll a student.

The head of school and teachers base their decision on various criteria including:

  • Shared philosophy of family and school
  • Family motivation
  • Developmental readiness
  • Maturity
  • Language proficiency (the school will do its utmost to maintain a desirable ratio of Mandarin speakers to English speakers: between 25 and 50%)
  • Diversity and gender balance

When the school cannot offer a place to a child, the school will offer advice as to other local alternatives.

When there are more qualified candidates than openings available the school maintains a waiting list from which spaces will be filled according to the criteria stated above

Shu Ren International School is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in education. The School does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, financial assistance programs, and other School administered programs and activities.
